OUR STORY

For over 40 years,
we have been farming the sea
with patience and conviction.

From the Mediterranean to the Opal Coast, our sites tell one story: one of uncompromising aquaculture, built on transparency, exceptional quality and a deep commitment to protecting marine ecosystems.

From a family-run business in Corsica to a European leader in responsible and sustainable aquaculture.

1992

A vision born in southern Corsica

In 1992, Philippe Riera founded Gloria Maris with four partners in the Bay of Campomoro, starting with a small 150-tonne farm. The project was driven by a strong desire: to return to Corsica, his island, and build a business around his greatest passion the sea. In this exceptional marine environment, aquaculture was the obvious choice: to raise high-quality fish in close connection with the natural environment and the island’s expertise.

2002

Establishing
our roots off the
Sanguinaires Islands

In 2002, Gloria Maris established a new farm in Ajaccio, facing the Îles Sanguinaires, offshore from an existing farm that the group acquired in 2009. This 20-pen site, complemented by the acquisition of the neighbouring site, marked a decisive milestone in the development of Gloria Maris Corsica. It enabled the farm to gradually become what it is today: an operation built around 60 pens, at the heart of an iconic marine environment.

2012

At the heart of the Mediterranean

In 2012, Gloria Maris established a presence in Stintino, in north-west Sardinia, with the acquisition of the historic Palma d’Oro site, now Gloria Maris Sardegna. With sea breezes, crystal-clear waters and natural currents, this Mediterranean setting offers exceptional farming conditions. Certified 100% organic for many years, Gloria Maris Sardegna is now one of the very few aquaculture farms in the Mediterranean to remain fully certified organic.

2013

Balancing the waters of the North

With the 2013 acquisition of Aquanord, now Gloria Maris Côte d’Opale, the group extended its expertise to Gravelines. This one-of-a-kind site in Europe operates in an open-loop system using seawater and makes use of temperate water from neighbouring industries to create ideal farming conditions. For over 40 years, this farm has embodied a remarkable form of circular economy, combining technical expertise, fish quality and harmony with its industrial and marine surroundings.

2014

Mastering the life cycle

In 2014, Gloria Maris continued to grow with the acquisition of the Écloserie Marine de Gravelines, now Gloria Maris Gravelines. A key part of managing the value chain, this site strengthens the group’s independence from the earliest stages of the fish life cycle. Recognised as one of Europe’s leading seabass hatcheries, it plays a vital role in the quality, traceability and consistency of Gloria Maris farms.

2016

Atlantic coast excellence

In 2016, Gloria Maris expanded into the Vendée with the acquisition of France Turbot, now Gloria Maris Vendée. This marked the addition of a fourth species to the group: turbot, a prized fish emblematic of French aquaculture expertise. It also brought a second hatchery into the group, further strengthening its technical expertise, innovation capabilities and know-how across the entire fish life cycle.

2018

A new generation looking to the future

In 2018, Bastien Riera joined the group as a shareholder and, together with Philippe Riera, began a father-to-son transition plan. To support this new chapter and lay the foundations for future growth, Gloria Maris moved its headquarters to Paris. This made recruitment and travel between sites easier and helped manage a group that had grown across multiple regions, while preserving the family and maritime roots at the heart of the company’s identity.

2020

Weathering the greatest crisis in its history

In 2020, the Covid-19 crisis hit Gloria Maris hard. At the time, more than 90% of the group’s revenue came from wholesalers specialising in food service, a sector brought to an abrupt standstill. Gloria Maris faced the greatest crisis in its history. It would take the company more than five years to return to a sound position, restore financial stability and once again look to a growth trajectory.

2026

A group looking to the future

In 2026, Gloria Maris reached another major milestone with the arrival of Ocean 14 Capital as its new financial partner. The funding round brings with it a new visual identity, new brands for the group’s sites, the launch of the Éleveur Bleu range and many projects to come. Building on its family heritage, marine terroirs and integrated model, Gloria Maris is embarking on a new path to meet the challenges facing European aquaculture of the future.

The people behind
our passion of the sea

At Gloria Maris, every product is the result of the dedication of people who are passionate about their work, deeply connected to the sea and oceans, and committed to addressing the challenges facing fisheries and aquaculture.

Whether at sea, on the farms and in our processing facilities, their daily work calls for patience, precision and unwavering dedication.

A fully integrated
aquaculture platform.

From farming to distribution, Gloria Maris oversees every stage of the value chain to ensure exceptional quality, full traceability and excellence in its Mediterranean products.

A CALLING BORN ON THE COAST

In the early 1990s, two sea enthusiasts dreamed of small-scale, integrated aquaculture that respected nature. They were driven by one conviction: it is possible to feed the world well without depleting its resources.

Gloria Maris would grow from this dream: a family project, built to last and designed to be passed on.

At the heart of French gastronomy

Since its beginnings, Gloria Maris has supported chefs, competitions and exceptional events that share the same vision of gastronomy: demanding, responsible and deeply respectful of the product. From fine-dining establishments to international events, these collaborations showcase the expertise of our teams and the excellence of our marine regions.

Nourishing the world,
without depleting it.

By protecting today what we leave to future generations.
